EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) has celebrated the groundbreaking of Cypress Knee Solar, a 250 MW solar energy project in Chicot County, Arkansas. According to the company’s announcement of 4 November 2026, the project is supported by a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Meta and is expected to be completed by 2028.

About USD 25 million for Chicot County

EDPR NA expects Cypress Knee Solar to generate approximately USD 25 million in new revenue for Chicot County over its lifetime. The company says the project will support several hundred jobs at peak construction, and that once operational its tax revenue can help fund schools, infrastructure improvements, emergency services and other community priorities.

During development, EDPR NA says it has contributed more than USD 77,000 to organisations and programmes in Chicot County, including the restoration of the Lakeside High School greenhouse, resources for the Lakeside Robotics team and funding for the Lake Village food pantry.

Supporting Meta’s clean energy commitment

According to the announcement, the project supports Meta’s commitment to matching 100 percent of its annual electricity use with clean and renewable energy generation. EDPR NA CEO Sandhya Ganapathy said the groundbreaking marks an important milestone for the project and for Arkansas, adding that as energy demand rises, projects like Cypress Knee Solar strengthen grid reliability while creating jobs and local revenue.

EDPR NA’s portfolio

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, EDPR NA has 61 wind farms, 29 solar parks and four energy storage sites across North America. The company says it has developed more than 12,900 MW and operates more than 12,300 MW of onshore utility-scale renewable energy projects.
