Ignitis Renewables, an international green energy company, announced on 6 November 2026 that its 174 MW Tume solar farm in Tukums municipality, Latvia, has achieved commercial operations. The company describes the project as one of the largest solar farms in the Baltics.

More than 282,000 panels on 302 hectares

Spread over 302 hectares, Tume has more than 282,000 solar panels; the company expects its annual output to cover the electricity needs of around 85,000 households. Tume is the first Ignitis Renewables project to use tracker technology, which follows the sun’s movement during the day to raise generation efficiency.

First project maintained mainly in-house

Tume is also the company’s first renewable energy project to be maintained primarily by Ignitis Renewables’ own specialists. CEO Frank Oomen called this an important step in strengthening in-house operations and maintenance capabilities, saying that building expertise within the team helps the company manage its assets more effectively, maintain high standards and secure strong long-term performance.

Oomen described the start of commercial operations as another milestone in delivering the company’s green capacities portfolio, adding that the project strengthens local renewable generation in Latvia, enhances regional energy security and supports the Baltic energy transition.

A 107 MW battery to be integrated

To further improve the project’s efficiency and flexibility, Ignitis Renewables is also developing the 107 MW / 215 MWh Tume battery energy storage system (BESS), which the company says is under construction and will be integrated with the solar farm. Once in service, the battery is intended to help make better use of the plant’s output and allow more renewable power onto the grid.

Tume is Ignitis Renewables’ third solar project in Latvia and an important addition to its renewable energy portfolio across the Baltics and Poland.
