Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, has announced that its 20 MWp Court Barton solar farm near Newton Abbot in South Devon, UK, has entered commercial operation. According to the company’s announcement of 5 November 2026, the plant will generate enough clean electricity to power around 8,500 homes each year.
More than 6,200 tonnes of CO₂ avoided per year
Recurrent Energy says Court Barton will avoid more than 6,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, which the company equates to taking approximately 1,300 cars off the road.
Skylark habitat and biodiversity net gain
Around 16 acres of the site have been set aside to enhance skylark habitat, and the company expects the project to deliver more than 60 percent Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). Recurrent Energy also says it has engaged with local stakeholders and supported community initiatives such as litter-picking at nearby beaches.
“The UK remains a key market”
Recurrent Energy CEO Dylan Marx said in the announcement that the UK remains a key market for the company in the energy transition and that bringing projects such as Court Barton online demonstrates its ability to turn its development pipeline into clean energy infrastructure. Marx also highlighted the skylark habitat as part of the company’s commitment to responsible development and biodiversity.
